To that affect, this weekend was a huge success for the community of Santa Teresa. The hotels, restaurants, surf shops, and souvenir shops all did very well. There were over 500 spectators comprised of national and international tourists. Many came just to see this event which affirms one the main goals that Jose Urena has for Costa Rica Surfing.

This past weekends contest was a remarkable event because this is the first time in surf competition in Costa Rica where all of the leading surfers were under 20 years of age. This is a dramatic shift from the past where older surfers like Gilbert Brown, Germaine Myrie , Diego Naranjo dominated this class. With surfers like Carlos Munoz who is 16 years and already on the path to greatness, Costa Rica surfing will surely become a world class spawning ground for top seeded surfers in the international arena.

The spectators were elated and cheered Jason Torres, Jair Perez, Luis Vindas and Federico Pilurzu even in the early morning hours due to the tide schedule. This group was fighting for the top position and eventual title of national champion.

Check back tomorrow for a full account of the winners, their standings and what we can expect for the final contest in Playa Hermosa in the coming weeks.
