Earthquake shakes Costa Rica with 5.7
UPDATE: The USGS just released an official magnitude for this quake at 5.7
Around 11:25am Central American time, a quake of 5.7 magnitude shook Costa Rica. This quake was the same if not stronger than the one on Jan. 8th which hit central Costa Rica. Luckily, this quakes epicenter was in the middle of Golfo Dulce which absorbed some of the radiant energy that the earthquake releases.
Many residents in Jaco ran out of their homes into the street. Many were remarking on how long the duration of this quake was to past events. The lateral movement of this earthquake was significant and very strong. Currently there are no reports of damage and all building in Jaco are intact. Costa Rica is prone to earthquakes, as such, developers are required to create seismic resistant structures. DayStar Properites, one of the largest developers in Costa Rica has been leading the way in building new structures with cutting edge earthquake proof designs.
The last building heavily damaged in recent history was on Jan. 8th at the ICE Sabana building in San Jose. Many floors and windows were cracked and damaged.
