Parrita Costa Rica XV Mule Festival

Parrita is celebrating their XV annual Mule Festival. Come watch the mules race down a 1,200-meter strip…where the winner is not necessarily the fastest, but the most skillful rider!
Parrita is known for its agricultural background and the origins of this festival came from the farmers who used mules to haul and carry their produce. In honor of this “stubborn” creature, which is bred by a mare and a donkey, the festival was created.
The warmth of this central pacific town will host to this fabulous event and other activities and exhibitions which will be held at ASOBIPA, the local community center. Come enjoy the best the country has to offer with local cuisine, “vaqueros” (local cowboys) and visitors from surrounding areas.
This activity is supported by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).
During the celebration their will be “tico style” bullfights, concert with regional groups, foods, crafts, carousels, children’s activities, and exhibitions of the area.
If that were not enough, visitors will be able to prove themselves and different skills in the rodeo and the karaoke, there will be limits, tractor rally (mulódromo), game gunpowder (at 9 pm), ranchero festival and cuadracross.
Main Event: On Sunday the 15th of this month, starting at 10 a.m., the event that gives its name to the festival: competition in the mule mulódromo.
It is a peculiar race, in which animals and their riders will have to overcome, several hurdles before reaching the grand final. It is 1200 meters of excitement, adrenaline and laughter.
“Some people believe that they are special and leading the mules that are needed for the race. The truth is that winning is the most skillful.
Last year there were 80 animals, and this year, they are expecting about 120 participants.
