ArenalVolcanoEvery trip to Costa Rica cannot be complete without visiting the magnificent Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna, San Carlos.  Although the volcano is the main attraction, the local town offers visitors a variety of activities.

At La Fortuna there is a little something for the entire family.  From hiking to bungee jumping to relaxing in the invigorating hot spring pools, the entire family will certainly have a great time in the area.

Other great activities that can be enjoyed by the family as a whole are the tours offered by the Canoe Adventure Company at La Fortuna.  Canoe Adventure offers tours that are perfect for the children and grown ups.  One of the most relaxing tours is the Safari Float in which guests calmly glide down the Peñas Blancas River while observing the wonderful flora and fauna of the region.

Some of the endemic species that can be observed are the Blue Morpho butterfly, two-toed sloth, monkeys, iguanas and a variety of birds.  The Safari Float is offered in its raft, canoe or kayak varieties.

In addition to river trips, Canoe Adventure also offers tours of the Arenal Lake, hikes to the Arenal Volcano and overnight trips to Caño Negro where a large variety of local and migratory birds can be easily observed.

Canoe Adventure is located in La Fortuna and will pick up its customers at all major Costa Rica hotels in the Fortuna area. If you are staying in Jaco there are a few tour operators that have daily shuttles to Arenal. This is a one day trip and is well worth it.
