Depsite the hard times people are having in economic woes, they are still willing to travel for vacations according to the World Trade Organization’s Calos Vogeler who is the representative for America. He elaborated that people are still willing to travel despite the difficult conditions around the globe. Vogeler said the leisure markets will continue to grow by 2% annually.  

Vogeler pointed out what many hoteliers and tour operators have known for years, which is strong dollar  and short travel time destinations soar during difficult times. With less money to spend, vacationers are looking for closer destinations like Costa Rica, where the dollar remains strong. Costa Rica tourism is heavily dependent on the United States which accounts for more than 75% of tourist dollars spent each year. Costa Rica vacation tourists, like the options Costa Rica offers when comparing to higher priced destinations like Hawaii. Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, sunsets, wildlife, tourism infrastructure that most tropical destinations have but with less than half the cost and travel time from the US. 

Jaco has continued to grow in tourism because despite the downturn, US domestic tourism is still more pricey when compared with a trip to Costa Rica. Tourists are also looking to save money on travel by taking more responsibility for their experiences. All inclusive resort that describes Guanacaste’s main tourist destinations like Occidental Papagayo are too expensive in this economic climate. Jaco is the natural hotspot for the “do it yourself” tourists, where they plan all their vacation activities.  Because, Jaco offers ease of access to the most popular parks, beaches, and activities that visitors seek plus with the close proximity to the airport along with a great bus transportation system.

Not long ago, people were using the words “stay-cations” to define their vacation spent at home instead of travelling. With JetBlue and Continental airlines increasing their seats to Costa Rica the others carriers will soon follow which will further add to competitive pricing for trips from the USA. Then add the popular Costa Rica resort beach town Jaco, which has pricing options for all budgets, the term “stay-cations” is flipped around. Jaco boasts more people who say, they came to vacation in Jaco and never left. There is a reason people love Jaco, Costa Rica so visit and find out for yourself. There has never been a better time to stretch your vacation dollars than now.
